Campton Civics and Town Government
Registered voters in Campton meet annually in March to act as the town’s legislative body and vote on budget, ordinances, and other matters of town government in the Town Meeting. Between these yearly meetings the town Selectmen’s Board, Officers, Committees, and School Board conduct the day-to-day business of governing the town of Campton. Your awareness of and participation in county, state, and national government are every bit as important as local engagement.
Monthly Civic Calendar
We post calendar events for Campton town board, commission, and committee meetings and other events of local interest.

Campton Community Power Committee
The Town of Campton has approved the formation of a Campton Community Power Committee (CCPC), which will oversee the process of bringing community power to the town. The members of the committee will be appointed in the next few weeks by the Select Board, and we are looking for candidates to recommend to them.
What is Community Power ? Community power allows towns to get better electric rates by negotiating power purchases on behalf of all consumers who have not explicitly chosen an energy provider. NH towns that have set up these programs have reduced consumer electric supply rates by 10-40% while increasing the usage of renewable energy. Campton has joined the NH Community Power Coalition (NHCPC), where as of April 2023, thirty-two municipal members and one county member work together to get the best rates for their residents.
https://www.cpcnh.org/about
What is the process for bringing community power to Campton ? The CCPC will draft an "Electric Aggregation Plan " (EAP) this summer that sets the guidelines for the process. Two public hearings will be held this fall for community review of the EAP. The revised plan will be submitted as a warrant article for the March 2024 town meeting. If approved, the committee will then negotiate a power purchase plan that will be offered to consumers, who can choose to opt-out of the plan. Those who participate will see the new rates by summer of 2024.
What will the CCPC do ? The first task is to create the EAP. Then we will need to plan, promote, and run the public sessions and use this info to revise the plan. We will need to comply with the relevant state utility requirements. We will be participating in NH CPC, learning about the electric power industry, and supporting their statewide efforts. We will need to draft and campaign for the warrant article. If the program is successfully launched, we will then need to administer and operate the program to insure it continues to save consumers money and help the community to renewable energy.
What is the time commitment required from committee members ? We will have one formal meeting each month, and we will be dividing the work that needs to be done in between meetings. Bringing this program to Campton will require a lot of work, so committee members should be prepared to spend several hours each month on their tasks.
What skills are needed to join the committee ? No prior experience in energy policy or technical skills are required. Please feel free to join if you feel that you can contribute to accomplishing any of the various tasks listed earlier.
